Belarusian MPs take part in consultation by UNICEF Regional Office

MINSK, 14 December (BelTA) – Members of the House of Representatives took part in the high-level Regional Consultation "Parliamentarians for Children” organized by the UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia via video conferencing, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus has been cooperating with UNICEF for a long time. Our main focus is to protect the rights of children at the legislative level,” said Igor Tavtyn, a member of the Standing Commission on Health, Physical Education, Family and Youth Policy of the House of Representatives. “I must say that the Youth Parliament at the National Assembly actively participates in legislative activities. Today these are young people, and tomorrow they are adults who will build the future of the Republic of Belarus. It is them who are in focus of this work too."

The Regional Online Consultation "Parliamentarians for Children" has been organized by the UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia to strengthen and expand existing partnerships with the national and international parliamentary assemblies in the region, and to facilitate the exchange of best practices in the protection of children's rights.

"Children are part of the population who are not yet fully aware of what is being imposed on them. Therefore, we need to shield them against the overuse of gadgets in the first place, and from what is posted on the internet today. We need to protect the younger generation even against the encroachments on the independence of the Republic of Belarus, to show them the right way of the country's development," the MP added.
