MINSK, 12 January (BelTA) – Belarusian scientists have launched Gabapentin-NASB, a domestic analogue of an imported drug for patients with epilepsy and nervous system disorders, BelTA reports citing the STV television channel.

The development has received high-level state recognition. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) included Gabapentin-NASB in the top 10 achievements of NASB in fundamental and applied research for 2025.

The scientists worked on the drug for over four years. Its composition is 100% identical to the original, yet the Belarusian version is about 50% cheaper. “We are the only ones who have replicated the original drug. Not only in terms of design, dosage, and form, but also in terms of impurity profile,” noted Vladislav Gudovich, Head of Research and Development at Academpharm.

Yekaterina Nasennikova, Head of the Finished Dosage Forms Technology Laboratory at Academpharm, explained that while the capsule composition may seem simple, “In reality, it hides many pitfalls. And it was the selection of the correct, appropriate, and suitable brands of excipients, including the active ingredient, that complicated the pharmaceutical development.”

A large team of Academpharm specialists contributed to the successful launch. In just a few months, pharmacies sold more than Br1 million worth of Gabapentin-NASB.
