Belarusian, Lithuanian musicians to stage Stanislaw Moniuszko tribute concert in Minsk

MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) – Musicians from Belarus and Lithuania will put on a concert to commemorate famous composer Stanislaw Moniuszko in the Holy Trinity Church (Saint Roch) on 18 September, BelTA learned from Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Union of Composers Viktor Kisten.

The concert will feature Belarusian soloists and laureates of international contests Yuri Gorodetsky (tenor), Viktor Kisten (organ), Aleksei Frolov (bassoon), and the music chapel choir Cantus Alba Rutheniae of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus conducted by Galina Tsmyg. They will perform Stanislaw Moniuszko's Litany of Ostra Brama No.3. the Lithuanian line-up will include Jurgita Kazakeviciute (organ), Asta Kriksciunaite (soprano), Rita Novikaite (mezzo-soprano), and other musicians.

According to Viktor Kisten, on 19 September the Museum of the History of Theater and Music Culture will host a roundtable of Belarusian and Lithuanian musicologists as part of the events commemorating the famous composer who played an important role in the musical life of Minsk and Vilnius in the 19th century. The events will be organized in association with the Lithuanian Embassy in Belarus and with participation of the soloists ensemble “Istoki” headed by Aleksei Frolov.

“I am happy that our joint campaign to popularize Stanislaw Moniuszko's works is in full swing in Belarus,”Aleksei Frolov said. “Even children take part in the celebrations. For example, an exhibition of works by young artists from the art center Vulei in Smilovichi opened in the Museum of the History of Theater and Music Culture on 5 September. The children were inspired by Stanislaw Moniuszko's works and biography and depicted places related to his life. The exhibition will be on view till 22 September,” he added.
