MINSK, 6 May (BelTA) - The real power of mass media lies not only in reporting news but also in the ability to shape public opinion and contribute to the solution of topical issues, Chairman of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko said as he presented awards to journalists for their work during the Belarus presidential election in 2025, BelTA learned.

Igor Karpenko noted that throughout the election campaign the mass media covered the main stages of the campaign, delivered expert opinions, helped voters to understand the key political points, creating conditions for an informed choice. “The real power of mass media lies not only in the ability to report news but also in the ability to shape public opinion and facilitate discussion of topical issues, to serve as an important link in the dialogue between the people and the authorities,” Igor Karpenko believes. “There is no doubt that at a time of speculations and conflicting opinions, it is especially important to be a voice that strives for objectivity and truth. Your audiences rely on you when it comes to understanding complex economic, social and political issues, and also electoral issues.”

This is why, Igor Karpenko believes, the role of the media cannot be overestimated: “These days we celebrate Press Day and the Day of Radio, Television and Communication Workers. These two holidays precede the great date, the 80th anniversary of which we will celebrate on 9 May.”

Of course, it was also thanks to our leader, thanks to good organization, but also thanks to your work, among other things.”
