MINSK, 31 May (BelTA) – Personnel of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry helped extinguish a major fire near the Turkish city of Milas last weekend, the Emergencies Ministry press service told BelTA.
According to the source, the fire occupied an area exceeding 12 hectares. Strong wind made firefighting work difficult. Several aerial units were involved in the operation, including a Mi-8 helicopter of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry. The crew spent 7 hours 35 minutes on the firefighting mission and dropped water on fires 42 times.
The fire was extinguished. The Belarusian helicopter returned to base near the Turkish city of Seferihisar where it stands by for more missions.
The Emergencies Ministry reminded it is not the first year Belarus has assisted Turkey with fighting fires in ecosystems. Belarusian crews have earned a reputation as highly trained specialists, who can work in complicated mountainous terrain.
