Belarusian government to pay financial assistance to war veterans on Victory Day

MINSK, 22 March (BelTA) - The Belarusian government has approved the amount of one-time payments to be paid to veterans of the Great Patriotic War and other categories of citizens on Victory Day, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government. 

Thus, the disabled and participants of the Great Patriotic War, and also those who took part in combat operations to defend the Fatherland till 3 September 1945 will receive Br5,000 each. Payments of Br2,500 will be awarded to persons who were awarded USSR orders and medals for selfless work in the rear, who worked at air defense facilities, local air defense, construction of defensive structures, naval bases, airfields and other military facilities in the rear of the active fronts, and also those who worked at the frontline sections of railroads and highways, who worked at enterprises, institutions and organizations of Leningrad during the siege from 8 September 1941 till 27 January 1944 and were awarded the Defense of Leningrad medal and those who were awarded the badge  “Resident of the besieged Leningrad”.

Financial assistance in the amount of Br1,500 will be awarded to family members of servicemen, partisans and underground fighters who died or went missing during the Great Patriotic War (spouses who did not remarry, children disabled from childhood (including adopted children), former prisoners, including minors, of Nazi concentration camps, prisons, ghettos, as well as former minor prisoners of other places of forced confinement created by the Nazis and their allies during World War II. 

The resolution comes into force on 1 May 2025.

According to the Labor and Social Security Ministry, the financial assistance will be paid in the period from 2 to 8 May. A total of Br12.9 million shall be provided from the national budget to finance one-time payments.
