MINSK, 6 January (BelTA) - The government has approved the National Action Plan for Gender Equality in Belarus for 2021-2025. The relevant resolution No.793 was issued on 30 December 2020 and officially published on the national legal internet portal on 6 January, BelTA has learned.
The Labor and Social Security Ministry shall coordinate and oversee the implementation of the national plan and ensure that the progress in the implementation of the plan is reviewed by the National Council on Gender Policy at the Council of Ministers. The ministry shall also submit progress reports to the government annually by 1 March.
The executing agencies of the national plan shall submit progress reports to the Labor and Social Security Ministry every year by 20 February.
According to the document, the aim of the national plan is to incorporate the gender factor into the state policy as an inalienable condition of the equal development of human capital of women and men. In line with the document, the gender policy shall refer to a set of legal, organizational and administrative measures at national and regional levels aimed at achieving and maintaining de jure and de facto equality of men and women, and also at providing equal opportunities for women and men (girls and boys) for self-fulfillment and development in all areas of public relations.
The gender policy shall be carried out in the following areas: improving the institutional mechanism for gender equality; equalizing social and economic opportunities of men and women, aligning parental and professional responsibilities; developing gender-oriented healthcare; countering domestic violence and human trafficking; and promoting gender awareness.
The resolution comes into force on the day of its official publication.
