
MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) - Standardization is more than just a set of rules or requirements. It is a tool for influencing markets, Yelena Morgunova, Chairwoman of Belarus' State Committee for Standardization (Gosstandart), said during a joint roundtable with Russia's Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart). The agenda was jointly developed by Belarus' Gosstandart and Russia's Rosstandart. The roundtable aimed to assess current Belarusian participation in international standardization technical committees, to identify areas for improving engagement practices. Participants included over 130 experts across economic sectors and scientific fields, who discussed strategies to enhance the engagement in global standardization committees.
Yelena Morgunova emphasized that participation in international standardization committees is critically important and more relevant than ever today.
“Control the standards, and you control the market," Yelena Morgunova stated. "By embedding a nation's, industry's or enterprise's essential requirements into standards, we simultaneously shape sectoral development and define competitiveness benchmarks for relevant products." Yelena Morgunova also expressed gratitude to head of Rosstandart Anton Shalaev "for enabling our joint standardization efforts and advancing this work within the Union State framework."
"The roundtable has proven its value for government agencies, industrial organizations, and scientific institutions. Such meetings will now be held regularly, addressing both broad issues and sector-specific challenges. The exchange of expertise demonstrated the significant engineering and technical capabilities of Belarus and Russia – potential that can enhance product competitiveness and expand export markets,” the Gosstandart press service noted.
Following the roundtable, Yelena Morgunova and Anton Shalaev held a bilateral working meeting to discuss priority cooperation areas and joint initiatives between the standardization agencies. The parties approved the
documents for establishing the Union State Committee on Standardization and Quality, approved the 2025-2030 roadmap for developing standards in energy conservation, energy efficiency, energy management systems. The document is expected to be signed during Russia’s Energy Week forum in Moscow in October.
Additionally, the meeting addressed approaches to implementing the Union State's 2025-2028 standardization plan for child nutrition. Yelena Morgunova and Anton Shalaev stressed that the sector-specific prorgamme approach to standard development will continue to be expanded, addressing concrete tasks for specific products and thereby building the body of Union State standards.
