MINSK, 29 September (BelTA) - The initiative to adopt the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st century has garnered international interest, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov, who is in New York for the UN General Assembly, told the Belarusian media, BelTA has learned.
"Our idea to hold a conference on Eurasian security and to develop the Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century together with our Russian partners aroused a lot of interest among UN members. The ideas similar to those laid down in the Charter and approaches to holding the conference are consonant with the positions of many representatives of the countries who were present [at the UN events ] and with whom I met," the minister said.
"I have nothing to say about the European Union. To be honest, I have not heard any concerns from them. They seem unconcerned about the lack of normal cooperation on both sides of Eurasia. For some reason, they are not concerned about this. They think only about the Russian threat and nothing more," Maksim Ryzhenkov said.
However, he stated that the topic of Eurasian security and cooperation is of concern to many other representatives of the Global Majority. This includes China and India, who have previously put forward a number of initiatives, and also Iran, the Middle East, and the countries of Central Asia. It is important for them to have the best possible cooperation and interaction throughout the Eurasian space. "Kazakhstan also put forward its initiatives, which are very consonant with the initiatives of our president," the Foreign Minister gave an example.
As BelTA has reported, in his speech in the UN, Maksim Ryzhenkov said that Belarus will continue to knock on the doors of peace and creation, security and development. “Since last year, Minsk has been hosting a big international conference on Eurasian security. This event is designed to consolidate political, economic and other processes in the Greater Eurasia in the interests of states and peoples. This year it will be held on 31 October. We invite everyone to attend. We must reinvigorate the UN and fill it with the spirit of San Francisco that once gave life to our Organization. We believe that this is vitally important today. This will benefit all people on the planet,” he noted.
