MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) - Belarusian expertise in digital development may be in high demand in Uganda, Belarusian First Deputy Communications and Informatization Minister Pavel Tkach told the media during the official visit of Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko to Uganda, BelTA learned.
Uganda has adopted a rather ambitious digital development program, designed by international specialists. “We see that the Belarusian expertise may be in great demand here in terms of both infrastructure development and provision of telecommunication services, because our Belarusian communication satellite Belintersat has a wide coverage in Africa, particularly in Uganda. We can also provide consultation and develop designs for communication networks. Uganda is also interested in our experience in specialist training that includes both long-term courses to obtain full education and short-term courses for specific purposes,” Pavel Tkach said. The expertise of the Belarusian Hi-Tech Park will also be of interest in Uganda, because the country's goals in digital development are very ambitious, he added.
Uganda offers a lot of opportunities for Belarus, Pavel Tkach emphasized. “Uganda seeks to study our experience. We expect a rapid development of both infrastructure and digital technologies here,” he stated. “Nowadays all countries have started paying attention to Africa, because African countries do not have any bias. They pursue a multilateral and open policy. Last month, a delegation from Japan came here and also offered their services. But the Japanese approach is more theoretical, while we are willing to provide practical solutions.”
The Belarusian head of government came to Uganda on an official visit on 20 February. Upon the arrival, he held talks with Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja of Uganda.
