MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) - The Belarusian experience of responding to the migrant challenge can prove useful for the international community, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said at the closing of the sixth session of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation, BelTA reports.
According to the speaker, the migrant crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border has become another challenge for Belarus. "The head of state asked the Council of the Republic to take on general coordination of the humanitarian mission. We pay special attention to children and pregnant women. We have been involved in this effort since the very first days of the makeshift refugee camp. Immediately, the members of the Presidium called on the international community to comply with the principles of international law, agreements on the rights of refugees and show compassion to their fates," Natalya Kochanova said. “Chairman of the Standing Commission on Education, Science, Culture and Social Development Viktor Liskovich went to the border to organize assistance to refugees: from collection and distribution of humanitarian goods, food and heating to medical care, vaccination, and safety of people. Now this work is coordinated by member of the commission Igor Gedich."
To fulfill the instructions of the head of state, on 9 December, members of the Presidium of the Council of the Republic visited the logistics center, where refugees are accommodated, and the Grodno border outpost. “I thank every one of you for contributing to the resolution of this problem. Our country is doing everything possible to create the most acceptable and safest living conditions for refugees. The Belarusian experience of responding to this challenge - promptly, coherently, systematically and kindly - can be used by the international community. Western politicians are outright and brazenly violating basic rights and freedoms under cover of allegedly democratic values. Human life is not worth anything to them. They are willing to commit any crime for the sake of political dividends and personal gain. This is confirmed by the testimony of the Polish soldier, who has applied for political asylum in Belarus, about the humiliation and murder of innocent people by the authorities of his country,” said the chairwoman of the Council of the Republic.
A flow of false accusations and absurd and scandalous comparisons continues against Belarus. “This is a short-sighted attempt of pseudo-democrats to justify themselves by denigrating others. It is truly a pity for the people who are doomed to follow such politicians. Today we, the members of the Council of the Republic, adopted another address to the MPs of European states to face the truth. The situation with migrants has once again demonstrated the importance of normal relations with neighbors, civilized interaction between countries and peoples, the availability of international platforms to present the position of any state and the willingness to hear the truth, even if it does not fit into someone's geopolitical strategy,” Natalya Kochanova said.
