MINSK, 16 February (BelTA) - The diaspora is concerned about the events happening now in Belarus, Sergei Kandybovich, Chairman of the Federal National and Cultural Autonomy of Belarusians of Russia, told the SB. Belarus Segodnya newspaper.
“Our main goal is to preserve the Belarusian national culture, language and traditions. All Belarusian public organizations in the regions are actively engaged in this work. Another line of work is the preservation and popularization of the history of the Great Patriotic War. We hold regular events and put forward initiatives. Last year when we marked the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory we held a great many events on patriotic education of young people and perpetuation of the memory of the fallen," said Sergei Kandybovich.
According to him, the diaspora is very concerned about what is happening in Belarus now. "We cannot stay away because every day we communicate with our relatives and friends who live in Russia, closely follow the events taking place in Belarus, and worry about our compatriots. Today we ca rephrase ‘You love for you native place is big' into" "You love and concern for you native place are big,” Sergei Kandybovich stressed. The Belarusian diaspora of Russia is the closest community to Belarus abroad. The attention in Belarus to the Belarusians of Russia expressed in the invitation of our delegation to the Belarusian People's Congress will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our joint work."
