
MINSK, 5 May (BelTA) – We should continue the glorious military and labor traditions of the generation of winners, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said at a ceremony of raising the Victory Banner at the Russian Embassy in Minsk on 5 May, BelTA learned.
He stated that the most terrible war in the history of mankind left an indelible mark on every family and there are many iconic, memorable places about those events in Belarus.
“This is evidence of the unprecedented courage of the Soviet people. It survived, defeated fascism, brought the homeland watered with blood back to life, restored the destroyed economy, took the leading position in the world,” Viktor Khrenin said. “Respect for the generation of winners, continuation of glorious military and labor traditions is a manifestation of our commitment to protecting the peace, security and well-being of the Motherland. We have no right to allow falsification of the historical events of the Great Patriotic War. Today it is our duty to remember it and to cherish peace.”
“Victory Day is a day of joy and at the same time a day of sorrow. Mourning for those who gave their lives in the name of freedom, in the name of those who live today. This great holiday embodies the unparalleled heroism of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War and the jubilant joy of the peoples saved from enslavement and destruction. In those hard years, the Soviet people defended their history, their culture, their future,” the minister emphasized.
