Belarusian companies to reconstruct wastewater treatment facilities in Russia’s Bryansk Oblast

MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – Enterprises from Belarus and Russia have signed a general contractor agreement on reconstructing wastewater treatment facilities in the city of Surazh, Bryansk Oblast, Russia. Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Ruslan Parkhamovich took part in the solemn ceremony, BelTA has learned.

The document was signed by OAO Order of the October Revolution Stroytrest No.3, which is part of the holding company Belstroitsentr, and the Surazh-based company AO Proletariy.

It is a contract for building wastewater treatment facilities, Belstroitsentr Director General Aleksei Malinovsky explained. He said: “The negotiations took place throughout 2023. The first pilot project to build a sewage collector for RUB50,000 was implemented by the same companies last year. Negotiations on larger projects were taking place at the same time. The reconstruction of the wastewater treatment facilities is expected to cost over RUB500 million. The negotiations continue. The customer is promising. It intends to build an industrial manufacturing facility at the site. That facility is estimated to cost RUB5 billion.”

Yuri Olekhnovich, Director General of OAO Order of the October Revolution Stroytrest No.3, added that the construction of the sewage collector last year had been accompanied by some difficulties but Belarusian builders had successfully tackled them. “It was the first stage of the wastewater treatment facilities and a rather interesting project. The fact that it was located in the flood plain of the Iput River made it complicated. We built two kilometers. We did it ahead of time and the customer liked it. The second stage provides for reconstructing these wastewater treatment facilities. We have the relevant experience. For instance, in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone. We presented those facilities. The customer was satisfied with our competences and we have already done some work on the contract,” he said.

Cooperation with the Russian company AO Proletariy has lasted for many years. The Russian company is fully satisfied with the work of Belarusian construction workers. The signing of the new agreement proves it. Director General of AO Proletariy Nikolai Kovtunov said: “Back in 2018 we built a new manufacturing enterprise virtually within one year with assistance of Belarusian partners. We have no complaints six years after this facility was built. The construction workers do excellent job. The praise also applies to the construction of the discharge sewage collector, which was built last year and is the forerunner of the current project for reconstructing the wastewater treatment facilities. We also use mainly Belarusian materials and have been working primarily with partners from Belarus for over 6 years.”

The reconstruction of the wastewater treatment facilities is supposed to begin in May 2024.
