Belarusian children's technopark to open in January 2021

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – The launch of the national children's technopark in Belarus is scheduled for January 2021, Sergei Sachko, the director at the Republican Center for Technology Transfer, said during an online conference hosted by BelTA's site on 17 January.

The main goal of the project is to implement new educational programs and additional educational programs for gifted children and youth to discover and develop students' abilities for research, invention and innovation. These will be both fulltime and distance learning programs. "The national children's technopark will operate year-round, with main programs and activities running from September to June inclusively and recuperation + education programs in July and August," Sergei Sachko said.

The technopark will cater primarily to 9-11 grade students who will study in groups of 7 to 10 people. One shift will last 24 days. “We plan three selection rounds. The first one is the distance round when guys submit an application at the website of the national children's technopark and present a creative work or a project. The council of experts will assess the works and will invite students for the second round of testing. The winners of various national and international competitions advance straight to the second round. The third round is an interview to determine the student's preferred line of activity and lab research,” the director of the center said.

Plans are in place to set up 15 innovative laboratories in the national children's technopark in robotics, aerospace, green chemistry, engineering ecology and biology. “Apart from high school students, the technopark will also welcome younger school students. We are planning to arrange weekend tours for groups of students to get familiar with the technopark and its laboratories. We also intend to create interactive platforms to inform young people about the professions that are currently popular in the world or the professions of the future. I am sure that this institution will be in demand," he added.
