MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) - The decision to call the presidential election will be made by the House of Representatives, Chairman of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko said on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel on 7 April, BelTA has learned.
"Having held the parliamentary and local elections on the single voting day, having formed both chambers of parliament, elected delegates to the Belarusian People's Congress and organized its work, we will enter the preparatory period of the presidential election campaign. Thus, we will complete this important electoral cycle on the formation of all state bodies in accordance with the updated Constitution, which we adopted in the national referendum in 2022," Igor Karpenko said.
"The president election is called by the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus," the head of the CEC emphasized. “The House of Representatives will decide on the date of president election. In accordance with this decision, the Central Election Commission will traditionally approve a calendar plan of organizational and technical measures. Thus we will begin the process of setting up election commissions, nominating candidates, their registration, and, accordingly, the holding of the voting day itself. Everything is as usual. In general, there have been no significant changes in the legislation."
