MINSK, 27 March (BelTA) - “Prominent” EU politicians would better deal with their domestic problems rather than create electoral chaos in sovereign states, the Central Election Commission of Belarus said as it commented on the new EU sanctions against the CEC, BelTA learned.
“The presidential election in Belarus was monitored by numerous international organizations and observers. The observation involved 486 observers from 52 countries, including 17 EU countries. The election was recognized as complying with the national electoral legislation and the CIS convention on the standards of democratic elections, electoral rights and freedoms. I would like to know what international standards the EU is talking about? If these are the standards that we saw in the Romanian elections, then we did not sign up to such standards,” the CEC said.
“We would suggest the 'prominent' EU politicians deal with their domestic problems, for example the development of the EU uniform election standards, rather than create electoral chaos in sovereign states,” the CEC added.
