Belarusian border service keeps reinforced patrols at southern border

MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – The Belarusian border service will remain in reinforced mode at the southern border, the press service of the State Border Committee of Belarus told BelTA.

According to the source, the situation at the Belarusian border remains predictable and under control. At the same time external challenges to border security remain in place due to the militarization of the border areas in neighboring states of the European Union and Ukraine

A number of Ukrainian army units remain deployed near the Belarusian border. They continue planting mines, setting up various field works and barriers. Various technical solutions and unmanned aerial vehicles continue being used for the sake of reconnoitering the Belarusian territory. In these conditions the Belarusian border service will remain in reinforced mode at the southern border.

Last year saw a significant increase in the number of attempts to push refugees from Latvia across the border into Belarus using force. As many as 43 deaths were registered in addition to multiple injuries. The foreigners, who suffered the injuries, were hospitalized in Belarusian healthcare institutions.

The territory near the Lithuanian border is actively used for deploying army units of the United States of America and Germany. Various tactical exercises are regularly held in the military exercise area Pabrade.

A taskforce made up of border service units, army units, and police units is deployed on the side of Poland. Multiple attempts to push foreigners from Poland to Belarus, move beaten-up refugees, and refugees, who had died due to their injuries, were registered at the Polish border last year.
