Belarusian Beltamozhservice criticizes Poland for slow vehicle clearance at border

MOSCOW, 20 October (BelTA) – The low freight throughput capacity on the Polish side of the Belarusian border primarily affects European consumers, BelTA learned from Director General of the Belarusian enterprise Beltamozhservice Dmitry Kovalenok.

Dmitry Kovalenok said: “The functionality of the border has been restored but certainly the amount of traffic that crosses the border right now is below the standards set by the customs services of Poland and Belarus. Primarily due to the low throughput capacity on the Polish side. Beltamozhservice operates waiting areas. We register all of it. All the measures are being taken on our part to provide vehicle drivers with everything they need but it is rather complicated to influence the neighbors.”

“According to our information, the Polish side x-rays 100% of the cargoes. It is complicated for me to comment on the reasons. I am definite that it is not required in the real situation because the waiting time can be as long as 7-10 days. It is having an extremely negative effect primarily on European consumers because export cargoes from China, Kazakhstan, and other countries are affected. Poles themselves make the position of the shipping companies that deliver freight to Europe worse,” the Beltamozhservice CEO noted.
