MINSK, 1 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian car manufacturer SZAO BelGee intends to expand the car lineup, BelTA learned from BelGee Director General Gennady Svidersky as a new BelGee showroom was opened in Minsk.
X50 and X70 crossovers are now marketed under the BelGee brand. The S50 sedan is supposed to become available in showrooms by the end of the year. Among other things the company is considering a car powered by methane.
Gennady Svidersky remarked: “We started working on it in May with assistance of OAO Gazprom Transgaz Belarus. The vehicle has been refitted to use methane and is now going through trials. Last week we got a vehicle that meets all the targeted specifications. I strongly hope that this year will see not only BelGee S50 cars but also the first batch of vehicles powered by methane. All of it is being done to improve the efficiency of using our vehicles for commercial purposes.”
The production of electric vehicles is another business area. “We need to occupy a decent position in the EV segment. We‘ve seen explosive growth of their usage this year,” the SZAO BelGee director general said. “Next year we intend to unveil a new model that we intend to assemble at the factory. An instruction has been given according to which an electric vehicle based on the X50 model is being created together with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Our task is to make five commercial prototypes this year. After thorough testing and commercial research into the project’s competitiveness we will decide on expanding the X50 lineup.”
Gennady Svidersky mentioned it is a complicated task but a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. As for the Geely brand, the company keeps an eye on the latest trends. “We will organize manufacturing of what is commercially profitable,” the SZAO BelGee head said.
