GRODNO, 17 November (BelTA) – The main task in the work with refugees is moving them to safety, BelTA learned from Grodno Oblast Governor Vladimir Karanik on 17 November.
The governor visited the temporary refugee accommodation facility in a transportation and logistics hub not far from the Belarusian border checkpoint Bruzgi on 17 November. The decision to move people to warm and comfortable conditions was made after the Polish side used special gear and ammunition, including water cannons and gas, during an escalation of the situation at the border on 16 November.
“The main task was to move people to safety. We have to warm up and feed them. It is being done now,” the official said. All the legal actions regarding the future fate of the people will be taken once their lives and health are no longer in danger.
Vladimir Karanik noted that concerned citizens, organizations, and enterprises have been sending aid to the refugees since the very first day the refugees camped out at the border. “It has once again confirmed that Belarusians are not indifferent to someone else's hardships,” he stressed.
