Belarusian army participates in CIS air defense exercise

MOSCOW, 11 September (BelTA) – A Belarusian army unit took part in an exercise of the joint air defense system of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). A total of over 10,000 military personnel from seven countries – Belarus, Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan – took part in the exercise, the press service of the Russian Federation Defense Ministry told BelTA.

Over 130 various command centers, over 160 radio warfare units, and over 40 air defense missile units that the seven countries had detached to the CIS air defense system were involved in the exercise. Over 60 aircraft and helicopters from the CIS states were used in the course of the exercise as well.

All the training missions were completed, the source noted. The results confirm the reliability and effectiveness of the CIS joint air defense system, said Deputy Commanding Officer of the Aerospace Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant-General Yuri Grekhov. He supervised the exercise.
