MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) — Ukraine's initiative to exclude the Central Election Commissions (CEC) of Belarus and Russia from the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) is undoubtedly politically charged, Chairman of the CEC of Belarus, Chairman of the CIS Advisory Council of the Heads of Electoral Bodies Igor Karpenko said during a meeting of the Council in Minsk on 19 September, BelTA has learned.
"I would like to inform you that the CEC of Ukraine put forward an initiative to exclude the CECs of Belarus and Russia from the A-WEB. It is an undoubtedly far-fetched and politically charged issue and does not comply with the statute of A-WEB," Igor Karpenko said.
The CEC head stressed that the issue of adding the Ukrainian initiative to the agenda will be decided at a meeting of the A-WEB Executive Board.
"We communicated our message to the Executive Board. We believe that the policy of canceling professional communities and entire states, which the CEC of Ukraine is trying to push through, is devastating, non-constructive and counterproductive," Igor Karpenko emphasized.
