MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) — Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Vladimir Borovikov met with members of the Belarus-Vietnam Friendship Society on 9 August, BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Hanoi.
The event was attended by Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Phan Anh Son, members and Chairman of the Vietnam-Belarus Friendship Society Nguyen Tuan Phong, former graduates of Belarusian universities, Vietnamese citizens who lived and worked in Belarus, and embassy staff.
In his speech Vladimir Borovikov honored the memory of former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, who made a great personal contribution to the strengthening of Belarusian-Vietnamese relations. He expressed confidence in continuing the dynamic development of Vietnam under the President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam. In the year of the 80th anniversary of Belarus' liberation from the Nazi invaders and the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory, the ambassador emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory and truth about the heroism of the Belarusian and Vietnamese peoples who defended the right to freedom and independence.
The meeting highlighted the intensification of Belarus-Vietnam interaction, including the cooperation at the highest level and the promotion of people's diplomacy.
During a brief conversation with the Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, the parties discussed plans for cooperation in the near future. The ambassador expressed readiness to implement new mutually beneficial projects, including those to be implemented by the Belarus-Vietnam Friendship Society. The photo exposition Invincible Belarus devoted to the 80th anniversary of the republic's liberation was displayed during the event.
