Belarus’ vice premier: It is no coincidence that Belarusians are ardent fighters for historical truth

MOSCOW, 23 September (BelTA) - It is no coincidence that Belarusians are ardent fighters for historical truth, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Natalya Petkevich said ahead of the commemorative concert Every Third at the State Kremlin Palace in Moscow on 23 September, BelTA has learned.

The commemorative concert Every Third is a matter of pride. “The project is significant and of very high quality in terms of the preparation by the artists, the director, and so on. It is even more significant that this theme is something we carry within us, and 'every third' is about us. There is not a single Belarusian family untouched by the grief of the Great Patriotic War. The fact that we are such ardent fighters for historical truth is not accidental,” the deputy prime minister said.

Natalya Petkevich thanked the Russian partners for supporting this idea and making it a reality. “This is an emotionally difficult project. For me, for example, every war song is painful. Thank God we did not witness it, and neither did our parents' generation. The country we live in, its war monuments, are so filled with memories and feelings that this value of Victory, freedom, and peace for us is not just a bookish concept. It is a value that we must defend and fight for,” she believes.

The commemorative concert Every Third is taking place at the State Kremlin Palace. Six thousand people have gathered in the Great Hall. The concert featured both well-known Soviet songs about the war and Victory, as well as modern compositions on military themes to commemorate every third person who died in the Great Patriotic War. The program included unique archival footage and photo documents, with the poetic basis being Anatoly Vertinsky's Requiem for Every Fourth. The premiere of the program took place in Moscow on Poklonnaya Hill in May 2024. To mark the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, a series of commemorative concerts were held at the Palace of the Republic in Minsk in April 2025. They were attended by spectators from all regions of Belarus.
