MINSK, 8 September (BelTA) – A Belarusian-Uzbek tourism forum will take place in Minsk on 12-13 September, representatives of Belarus’ National Tourism Agency told BelTA.

During the plenary session reports will be presented on the state and prospects of Belarus-Uzbekistan cooperation in tourism, on cooperation between Belarusian State University of Physical Culture and Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage in training personnel for the tourism industry, and on the development of medical and wellness tourism.

Efforts to build up cooperation between regions of the two countries, the creation and promotion of tourism products will also be in the center of attention.

Panel sessions will be held to discuss the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in tourism at the state level and the regional one, the sharing of the best practices and prospects of cooperation in training personnel for the tourism industry, and the state and prospects of Belarus-Uzbekistan partnership between tourism industry entities.

Interaction between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Uzbekistan at all levels in the sphere of tourism has increased considerably. Air service has been established, with the air carriers Uzbekistan Airways and Belavia offering flights five days a week (every day except for Wednesdays and Sundays). In 2023 Belarus welcomed over 32,700 citizens of Uzbekistan, 1.4 times up from 2022 and 1.6 times up from the prepandemic year of 2019. The average stay of organized foreign tourists from Uzbekistan to Belarus increased from 3 to 4 days in the same period.

As many as 289 citizens of Uzbekistan used services of Belarusian sanatoriums in 2023. As many as 2,593 people received medical aid in Belarus (1,188 people in H1 2024).

“Taking into account the traditionally friendly ties between the two countries, work is also in progress to step up business operations and expand cooperation, including in tourism, at the regional level. In 2024 an action plan was signed on promoting cooperation in the sphere of tourism between the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry and the Tourism Committee under the Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the 2024-2025 period,” Belarus’ National Tourism Agency told BelTA.

The tourism forum is the fifth joint event organized by the business circles of Belarus and Uzbekistan this year. The 2nd Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan took place in February. An Uzbek delegation took part in the international spring fair of tourism services Leisure 2024 in April. A fact-finding tour to Belarus was arranged for representatives of Uzbek travel agencies in May. The 2nd Belarusian-Uzbek women’s business forum took place in August. Participants of the forum discussed the promotion of economic contacts between the countries.
