MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – The Belarusian Emergencies Ministry and the State Committee of Industrial Safety of Uzbekistan signed an agreement on cooperation in industrial, nuclear and radiation safety in the use of nuclear energy, BelTA learned from the Emergencies Ministry.
On behalf of Belarus, the document was signed by Emergencies Minister Vadim Sinyavsky, on behalf of Uzbekistan – by chairman of the committee Bakhtiyor Gulyamov. The agreement establishes a legal framework for cooperation in such areas as the development of a regulatory framework in the field of industrial, nuclear and radiation safety, keeping records and control over nuclear materials, radioactive substances and waste, ensuring safety in waste management, including waste transportation and safe storage, ensuring physical protection of nuclear energy facilities, ensuring emergency preparedness and emergency response, improving the competencies of employees of regulatory bodies in the field of nuclear and radiation safety.
Uzbekistan is at the initial stage of a project to build a nuclear power plan and is highly interested in Belarus' experience in implementing its first nuclear energy program.
