Belarus, Uzbekistan interested in intensifying interparliamentary contacts

MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) – Belarus and Uzbekistan are interested in intensifying interparliamentary cooperation, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said as she met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Belarus Rakhmatulla Nazarov on 17 March, BelTA has learned.

“We are sincerely glad to have developed really good relations between our parliaments. Last year was very important for us - we made an official visit to Uzbekistan in August and held the second forum of women entrepreneurs of Belarus and Uzbekistan. During the official visit, we held meaningful negotiations with our colleagues and signed a cooperation agreement for 2024-2025. The presidents of our countries gave instructions to oversee the implementation of the agreements reached during Aleksandr Lukashenko's visit to Uzbekistan,” said Natalya Kochanova.

During the visit to Uzbekistan,  Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova, who led Belarus’ parliamentary delegation, met with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. “We thoroughly discussed  the bilateral agenda, including cooperation in social and economic field, trade and humanitarian matters. We also touched upon inter-parliamentary contacts. This year, we have already met with Tanzila Kamalovna [Narbayeva, Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan] several times. We are preparing for a visit to Uzbekistan to participate in the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and, of course, we will meet with my colleague in order to discuss the issues that need to be resolved in the near future,” the speaker noted.
