Belarus, UAE to develop cooperation in nuclear regulation

VIENNA, 19 September (BelTA) - Belarus and the United Arab Emirates will develop cooperation in nuclear regulation. The agreement was reached by the Belarusian delegation led by Olga Lugovskaya, head of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor), and representatives of the UAE Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) at meeting in Vienna on 19 September, BelTA has learned.

The United Arab Emirates has completed the construction of the first unit of the Barakah nuclear power plant in the Gharbiya region of Abu Dhabi and is preparing for its launch. Taking into account the fact that Belarus is also preparing to launch the first unitsof its own NPP, FANR would like to establish active cooperation with the Belarusian regulator.

The parties agreed to prepare and sign an agreement on cooperation in 2020.

The Belarusian side also received an invitation from FANR to take part in the international forum of regulators which will be held in the UAE.
