MINSK, 30 April (BelTA) – Seven capsules with soil from Belarusian battlefields will be handed over to Russia, Consul-Ambassador of the Russian Embassy in Belarus Piotr Frolov told the media on 30 April, BelTA has learned.
“Today, a solemn ceremony to hand over capsules with soil from the burial places of the Great Patriotic War times in Belarus to the representatives of Russia will take place near the All Saints Church in Minsk as part of a commemorative event to mark the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. In the future the capsules will be delivered and laid in the foundation of the main temple of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation,” said Piotr Frolov.
A total of seven capsules from six regions of Belarus and the city of Minsk, as well as a catalog of 6,807 burial places will be handed over.
According to Piotr Frolov, Belarus has been doing a lot to preserve the memory of the Great Patriotic War. “I am happy with the preparations that took place ahead of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. We honor and understand this Victory. Years have passed, and many political forces in Europe would probably like to change something, to read it in another way. However, abandoning one's own history, the achievements and deeds that were made at that difficult time is the way to nowhere, the way to the abyss. History is part of the national identity of the people. The past is a bridge to the future, and we can build this future only on the basis of that history,” he said.
