Belarus to focus on priorities approved by people's congress in its efforts towards SDGs

MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) - Anatoly Isachenko, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic and National Coordinator for the Sustainable Development Goals, took part in High-Level Policy Segment of the UNECE Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, which was held in the virtual format on 17 March, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament.

In his speech, Anatoly Isachenko reaffirmed Belarus' commitment to effective and timely implementation of the Agenda 2030 and noted that Belarus has been moving consistently towards sustainable development involving all segments of the population, civil society, business, in close cooperation with regional and international partners.

In the field of sustainable development Belarus will focus on such priorities as strong regions, state-partner, smart country, and happy family, which were approved by the Belarusian People's Congress in February this year, Anatoly Isachenko noted.

Belarus' national coordinator called on the international community to scrap the national isolation and restrictive measures that have become the norm in the coronavirus era and to proceed to reviving national economies, strengthening human potential and ensuring equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.

Anatoly Isachenko also suggested holding an event of national SDG coordinators on the sidelines of the UNECE Regional Forum with an aim of sharing experiences.
