MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – Amendments to legislation related to the domestic political situation will be drawn up and submitted soon, Deputy State Secretary of the Security Council Aleksandr Rakhmanov told the media after the meeting with the president, BelTA has learned.
According to him, the meeting hosted by the head of state considered a wide range of issues related to the fine-tuning of the national legislation and plans to update it in the future so that "it could allow a timely and prompt response to any challenges and threats such as those faced by our country in the second half of 2020."
Among such challenges and threats, according to him, are in particular, mass events which escalated into riots, resistance to law enforcement officers. Minors were involved in such activities. There were cases of blocking of city traffic, calls for strikes in various organizations, enterprises and institutions, spread of unregistered symbols, collection and dissemination of personal data of not only about public servants but also of about other people taking an active civil position. This data was distributed and used by other people for insults and threats. “Of course, all of this is unacceptable. According to the concept of national security, the inefficiency and imperfection of the current legislation, its inability to respond to emerging risks, challenges and threats in a timely and relevant manner is unacceptable,” Aleksandr Rakhmanov said.
According to him, it is necessary to make appropriate amendments to the administrative, criminal, criminal procedural and electoral legislation in order to prevent similar events in the future.
Aleksandr Rakhmanov emphasized that the proposals to amend the legislation would be developed and adopted in the near future. The head of state set tough deadlines for this work. “The necessary amendments to our national legislation will be made in Q1 2021,” he said.
Amendments will be added to the Criminal Code and the Labor Code in order to suppress calls for strikes. There are plans to revise the law on extremism, to adopt a law against the glorification of Nazism, to strengthen the protection of personal data, and also against aggressive attacks on judges, law enforcement officers, journalists and other social groups.
