MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) – The commission on finding and returning cultural heritage and using it for scientific and cultural purposes at the Belarusian Culture Ministry convened on 27 May, BelTA learned from the press service of the Culture Ministry.
In 2019-2020, Belarus returned 56 books, 20 works by artists of Belarusian descent, one Slutsk belt, and two collections of documents and photos, received 10 digital copies of books and documents and seven photos of cultural property, found and repatriated more than 100 documents and 16 items that belonged to Belarusian museums. The most interesting items include three books from the library of the Chreptowicz family, three paintings by Ferdynand Ruszczyc, 50 books by Wladyslaw Syrokomla, the Brest Bible, and a sword of the 15th-16th centuries.
The meeting was co-hosted by co-chairman of the commission, Deputy Culture Minister Valery Gromada and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik. The commission took stock of the efforts to repatriate cultural heritage of Belarusian origin in 2019-2020. The participants also discussed important aspects of various activities of the Culture Ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art, the National History Museum, the National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve Nesvizh, and the Vetka Museum of Old Believer Faith and Belarusian Traditions.
