Belarus suspends postal services to all countries except Russia, China

MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) – Belarus' national postal service Belpochta will continue to accept mail only for Russia and China. The company has temporary suspended services for all other countries, BelTA learned from the website of the company.

The company explained that airlines that deliver mail from Belarus are canceling more and more flights over coronavirus. Air service in some countries was canceled altogether. Taking this into consideration, Belpochta will receive letters, parcels and EMS packages destined only for China and Russia.

“Services for more countries will become available again provided there is transport to deliver them,” Belpochta informed.

Postal services of a number of countries that make part of the Universal Postal Union informed that they are dramatically understaffed over the quarantine measures imposed in their countries. This is expected to result in serious delays in delivering EMS packages and other mail.

Specialists remind that coronavirus can stay on surfaces for several hours only, therefore it is impossible to get infected through an international parcel.

Post offices in Belarus work as usual. Belpochta will issue more updates later.
