Belarus shows interest in sci-tech cooperation with Azerbaijan

MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) - Belarus is interested in developing sci-tech cooperation with Azerbaijan, Deputy Chairwoman of the State Committee for Science and Technology Tatyana Stolyarova said at the meeting of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Azerbaijani commission on trade and economic cooperation, BelTA has learned.

“Cooperation in science and technology between our countries are constructive. They are constantly developing and have great potential. We express deep interest in further development and expansion of interaction in science and technology between our scientific organizations in promising areas of cooperation,” Tatyana Stolyarova said.

The bilateral cooperation in science, technology and innovation between Belarus and Azerbaijan is based on the agreement between the governments of Belarus and Azerbaijan on cooperation in science and technology. The document was signed on 3 June 2010. A joint Belarusian-Azerbaijani working group on sci-tech cooperation was established to coordinate cooperation between the countries. The working group held three meetings. Two contests of joint scientific and technical projects were held.

According to the results of the contest of joint scientific and technical projects held in 2022 jointly with the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, the two countries are implementing four projects in new materials, petrochemistry, and plant protection. The Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics and the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan are working on new thin-layer composite materials for the production of memory elements. The United Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan are developing innovative lubricants for heavily loaded and high-temperature friction units. The Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan are working on new plant protection technologies based on silver nanoparticles. The National Research Center for Materials Science of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus together with the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan are developing innovative magneto-soft composite materials for the production of high-efficiency electric motors and other electrical devices. The implementation of these projects in accordance with the calendar plan will be completed in 2024.

At present, the State Committee for Science and Technology and the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan are preparing for the fourth meeting of the working group, which is planned to take place in H2 2024. They are also gearing up for next contest of joint scientific and technical projects for 2025-2026, the topic of which will be determined by the results of the reached agreements.
