Belarus' senator urges to initiate inquiry in Poland into facts named by Emil Czeczko

MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) – An inquiry should be launched in Poland to investigate the facts mentioned by Emil Czeczko, member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Yekaterina Serafinovich told BelTA.

“Last Friday, the State Border Committee reported that a Polish soldier crossed the border and asked for political asylum in Belarus. The Polish side kept silent for some time, then tried to deny the fact of the soldier's desertion, then announced the death of the żołnierz and eventually admitted what had happened. They immediately mounted a massive smear campaign to blacken the defector. According to them, he was detained drunk driving, and he was probably under the influence of narcotic substances, however, they did not provide any evidence of this. They immediately ‘recalled' the young man's beating of his own mother. A logical question arises: what did such an unreliable serviceman do at the border? By the way, in the interview with Belarusian TV Emil Czeczko revealed shocking facts of killings of refugees and volunteers by the Polish security forces. We will not go into detail about it, the Belarusian prosecutor's office has compiled five volumes of materials under a criminal investigation into Poland's actions against refugees. The documents will be submitted to the European Parliament and other international organizations. I think that the facts mentioned by Emil Czeczko should be checked, although there is no one to do it. After all, the Poles declared a state of emergency and do not allow journalists, the Red Cross, or human rights defenders into their border zone,” the senator said.

According to Yekaterina Serafinovich, despite all the attempts to hush up these facts mass media learned that one of Polish servicemen committed suicide and another one died of a heart attack. And here's a new fact - the desertion of a serviceman to Belarus.

“One can try to understand the reasons for such a decision (the serviceman himself explains it by his unwillingness to tolerate the mistreatment of refugees at the Polish-Belarusian border), one can try to reach out to the European Union and urge it to stop the madness that is taking place in the border zone with the connivance of the Polish authorities. I personally want to know the following thing: why Poland declared Emil Czeczko a deserter, launched a criminal case against him threatening up to ten years in prison, while the Belarusians who betrayed their homeland, tried to stage a coup and are now calling for sanctions against their country are called the heroes of ‘new Belarus' by the Polish authorities. Why is that?! Politicians of Western countries who only suggest the idea of economic sanctions against their own country immediately lose their powers and their career goes down the drain, but as they say, it is different with the Belarusians,” said the senator.

She recalled that Waldemar Skrzypczak, the former commander of Polish Land Forces, called for the execution of the soldier who deserted to Belarus. “Ten years in prison, in his opinion, is not a sufficient punishment for a deserter. At the same time, the Polish authorities keep providing financial support based on European grants to those who deserted from Belarus and are trying to present them as national heroes. Hypocrisy is devoid of morality and principles, and therefore it is monstrous,” Yekaterina Serafinovich said.
