MINSK, 18 May (BelTA) – Will the conflict in Ukraine end or will it sweep through the entire Europe? How will Belarus respond to Ukraine’s further militarization? Answers to these questions were found by various officials on the air of the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.
According to State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich, the outcome of Russia-Ukraine talks will not depend on Ukrainians but on tips from European leaders. “Ukraine does not make any decisions on its own. I think Americans [will provide tips] via European comrades. After all, Europe should appreciate the situation and the scale. Because the conflict in Ukraine is the flame that can sweep through the entire Europe. But there should be a chance and all of us hope for peace,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.
According to the state secretary of the Security Council, the people, who have risen to power in Europe, do not understand what may happen as a result of the escalation of the conflict. But there is still hope for pragmatism and common sense, he added.
News has been released this week that the European Union will allocate nearly €2 billion out of Russia’s frozen assets to Kiev for the sake of buying ammunition, missiles, and drones. Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin was asked to comment on the news.
“In his speech the president told us to reinforce the defensive capability and the combat readiness of our Armed Forces. This is how we will respond,” Viktor Khrenin stressed. “No, we are not going to get involved in the arms race. We will proceed from the need to have the weapons that are in demand in the battlefield today. It has been said more than once. The principle of the necessary sufficiency will be clearly observed.”
