MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) – Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev met with top executives of Russian Railways on 2 February to discuss the interparliamentary military and patriotic project Memory Train, the press service of the Secretariat of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS IPA) told BelTA.
The campaign has been initiated by the heads of the upper chambers of the Belarusian parliament and the Russian one – Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova and Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko. The campaign is aimed at patriotic education of the youth.
Konstantin Kosachev stressed: “The purpose of the project is not only to talk about the war but to unite young Belarusians and Russians.” He also said that the epidemic situation permitting, events of the military and patriotic project Memory Train may be synchronized with the organization of the 9th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia this year. The forum will be held under the aegis of the upper chambers of the Belarusian parliament and the Russian one in Grodno in June 2022.
The press service of the Federation Council said that school students from Belarus and Russia are expected to participate in the patriotic campaign. They will be able to visit several cities and towns in Belarus and Russia, including Brest, Minsk, Smolensk, and Moscow, as well as the Patriot Park in Moscow Oblast. School students from other CIS states may also participate in the project later on, Konstantin Kosachev added.
As part of the patriotic campaign the school students are expected to meet with war veterans, go on sightseeing tours, visit museums, and see historical reenactments of Great Patriotic War events. They will also participate in enlightenment and cultural events.
