MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – Andrei Balysh, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on Agrarian Policy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, spoke to journalists about the development of Belarus-Russia cooperation in agriculture ahead of a meeting of the Commission on Agrarian Issues of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.
The agenda features two key issues related to strengthening cooperation in agriculture: the Union State programs Gardening and Smart Farm. “The whole world strives for new technologies, and the Union State of Belarus and Russia is keeping pace. Belarus has the Academy of Sciences with powerful centers, strong industrial enterprises, and Russia is a key partner. We are joining efforts in priority areas. This is important not only for food security but also for introducing joint agricultural products to international markets, despite the difficulties,” Andrei Balysh explained.
During the meeting, these issues will be examined and decisions will be made shortly. “Their implementation will help our two agrarian nations strengthen their positions on the global market,” he noted.
Belarus and Russia have accomplished a great deal in agriculture. “But there are issues that we resolve through joint efforts. We have strong breeders and production capacities. Unfriendly countries thought that with sanctions on seed material and breeding stock they would stop us and leave us without food. But no, thanks to the sanctions we are actually developing. We collaborate, and the results will soon be seen not only in the domestic market of the two countries but also beyond its borders,” the MP stated.
In addition to the Union State programs, the commission members will review the progress of developing the joint Union State project “Breeding Aggregator: a digital platform for large-scale cattle breeding,” aimed at combining data from breeding farms, laboratories, and scientific centers of Belarus and Russia. The event will gather representatives of the Union State Standing Committee, the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Russian Agriculture Ministry, and the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
