MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) — The General Staffs of the Armed Forces of Belarus and Russia have started preparing for the Zapad 2025 joint exercise, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said at a meeting of the joint board of the defense ministries of Belarus and Russia in Minsk on 23 October, BelTA has learned.
This is the first in-person meeting held in Belarus since 2018. During the meeting, the parties exchanged views and took decisions on important issues of joint defense policy and military cooperation between the Armed Forces to ensure the military security of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.
"At present, the General Staffs of the Armed Forces of Belarus and Russia have begun preparations for the Zapad 2025 exercise. This exercise will be the main event of joint training of the military administration bodies and troops in 2025. It is designed to further improve the current system of ensuring military security in the Union State," Viktor Khrenin stated.
According to him, such large-scale events help to test the combat readiness of the regional task force and the ability of the troops to carry out the tasks together.
