Belarus, Russia sign memorandum of cooperation in information technology

MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) - The United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Research Computing Center of Lomonosov Moscow State University have signed a memorandum of cooperation, BelTA has learned.

The document was signed by the heads of the scientific institutions: Sergei Kruglikov and Vladimir Voevodin.

The memorandum aims to strengthen and promote scientific and technical relations, to develop, explore and further implement advanced solutions, services and software in information technology. The parties plan to hold joint events such as conferences, seminars, roundtables, and to jointly implement scientific projects and research programs.

Sergei Kruglikov emphasized that the signing ceremony took place on a remarkable day: the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia.

"Our partners and colleagues, with whom we have been working for over 20 years, came to discuss pressing issues and ways to address them within the Union State of Belarus and Russia. We have substantial experience in implementing Union State programs in supercomputing technology. The first supercomputing technology, which are highly knowledge-intensive and critical to the economic development of both countries, originated in our institute. It is an expensive area, and Union State projects allow us to develop at a global level," Sergei Kruglikov said.

Vladimir Voevodin also described the signing of the memorandum as a landmark event. "Our organizations are leaders in supercomputing and information technologies, and we share many common interests. We have ample opportunities for growth," he said.

According to Vladimir Voevodin, cooperation among scientists is built on a strong foundation. One of the supercomputers, SKIF, was created within the framework of the Union State. It has been used for tasks ranging from climate studies to the design of new materials, in information security and the oil and gas sectors.
