MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) – Belarus’ Emergencies Minister Vadim Sinyavsky met with Russia's Minister for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Disaster Relief Alexander Kurenkov on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the International Civil Defence Organization in Baku on 9 July, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry.
The parties had a detailed discussion on the supply of Belarusian-made fire-fighting and rescue equipment for the needs of Russia’s Emergencies Ministry. The Belarusian minister presented new developments and time-tested equipment. “We guarantee full fulfillment of all commitments undertaken by the Belarusian side,” he emphasized.
The parties also highlighted the positive experience gained from joint humanitarian assistance to countries affected by natural disasters, particularly in Türkiye and Myanmar. Alexander Kurenkov confirmed the possibility of using Russian aircraft to transport Belarusian rescuers to disaster zones in the future.
The heads of the emergency services exchanged best practices in public outreach and educating children on life safety. Vadim Sinyavsky presented Belarus’ approaches to water rescue operations, including efforts to enhance the effectiveness of the Belarusian rescue organization OSVOD. Alexander Kurenkov spoke about managing rescue operations under special conditions, detailing measures for population protection, evacuation procedures, and demining efforts.
Vadim Sinyavsky asked his Russian counterpart to explore Russia’s experience in organizing explosive ordnance disposal services. The parties agreed that the Russian side will support Belarusian specialists in this area. The parties also agreed that Belarusian emergency workers will participate this year in the All-Russian training camp for mountain rescue preparation and in the Russian Ministry’s rescue multiathlon championship.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Alexander Kurenkov expressed deep appreciation for the strong partnership between the two countries’ emergency services. “We are completely open and will support all joint initiatives,” he said. Alexander Kurenkov invited Vadim Sinyavsky to visit Irkutsk in September for a joint board meeting and to attend the Integrated Safety exhibition scheduled for 2026 in Kazan. In turn, Vadim Sinyavsky invited his counterpart to visit the Republic of Belarus.
