Belarus-Russia interregional cooperation hailed as effective

GRODNO, 1 July (BelTA) – Interregional cooperation between Belarus and Russia is very effective in all areas, Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko said on 1 July, BelTA has learned.

“The regions make a very significant contribution to trade and economic cooperation between our states and, of course, to the implementation of the Union State integration roadmaps signed by our presidents. I believe that interregional cooperation is very effective across various aspects of these programs. Suffice it to say that last year, which was a difficult one because of COVID-19, the trade between Russia and Belarus increased by 30%. We have already reached $40 billion in mutual trade. And, of course, we will confidently move forward,” Valentina Matviyenko said.

The speaker thanked the Council of the Republic for arranging the forum. “The forum was organized in such a smart, thought-out way. We are all in love with Grodno. A very beautiful city, clean, neat and tidy, with very friendly people,” she stressed.

Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova and Chairperson of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko are taking part in a meeting with the regional authorities of Belarus and the Russian Federation on 1 July. After that they will participate in the plenary session “The role of interregional cooperation in deepening the Union State integration processes”.
