MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – Belarusian Energy Minister Denis Moroz talked about successful and efficient cooperation of Belarus and Russia at an expanded-participation session of the foundation Association of Nuclear Power Plant Locations (ATR AES Foundation), BelTA has learned.
Belarus tightly cooperates with the ATR AES Foundation and is a long-time partner of the foundation, Denis Moroz noted. A modern project is being implemented for the sake of bolstering bilateral ties between regions where nuclear power plants are located. “I am convinced that a nuclear power plant is not simply a technological facility that has to generate electricity. A nuclear power plant is a very serious, complicated organism that includes the facility itself, the nearby regions, and the personnel. The most important thing at a nuclear power plant is its personnel, who directly manage all the technological processes,” the energy minister said. “For the nuclear power plant to operate as efficiently as possible, it is necessary to establish the entire necessary infrastructure in the area to allow people to enjoy comfort and safety.”
Results of the joint work represent an important contribution to efficient social, economic, and innovative development of the nuclear industry town as well as to the promotion and popularization of nuclear industry accomplishments. The minister is convinced that the cooperation roadmaps that will be signed as a result of the session will open up a new page in partnership between the countries.
The event took place on the eve of several significant events. One of them is the International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day, which is marked on 26 April. “It is the date when we recall what consequences incorrect actions at a nuclear power plant can bring about. The catastrophe at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant has affected thousands of lives. As the country that has suffered the worst of this problem, the Republic of Belarus has been fully affected by the impact of such serious accidents. Nevertheless, thanks to the international community and domestic resources Belarus rather efficiently overcomes these problems and develops right now,” Denis Moroz pointed out.
Despite the negative experience a strategically correct decision has been made and the project to build the Belarusian nuclear power plant has been implemented together with the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom. “77% of the population support the construction and operation of a nuclear power plant in the territory of our country. Why? Because the nuclear power plant provides totally obvious and understandable benefits for every citizen. Thanks to our commissioning the nuclear power plant, we have substantially changed the level of comfort for thousands of citizens of our country. More than 130,000 households in Belarus have been granted an opportunity to use electricity for heating and hot water supply. It is a brand new level of living standards,” the minister noted. He added that the nuclear power plant had given an impulse to the development of the manufacturing sector and new technologies.
Denis Moroz also stressed that the session was taking place ahead of the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory – 9 May. “It so happens that this date is also tied to great sacrifices made by our nation. The Republic of Belarus puts massive efforts into preserving memory of those terrible events that took place in the territory of our country,” he stressed.
This year also marks 80 years since the foundation of Russia’s nuclear industry. “It is the most important date because it marks the beginning of development of the nuclear industry and certainly, of the power engineering industry that we discuss among other things today. We attach special emphasis to it: the best Russian practices and cutting-edge nuclear energy technologies have been incorporated into the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction project. Today it operates successfully and contributes to the energy security and the technological sovereignty of the country,” Denis Moroz said. Cooperation with Rosatom continues along many other avenues.
The foundation for facilitating the development of municipal entities Association of Nuclear Power Plant Locations (ATR AES Foundation) was founded in 2013.
