Belarus reports six incidents of breaching its airspace since August 2023

MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) – Since August 2023, six incidents of violating Belarus’ airspace by Latvia, Lithuania and Poland have been recorded, Colonel Valery Revenko, Head of the International Military Cooperation Department, Aide for International Military Cooperation to the Belarusian Defense Minister, said at a press briefing for representatives of the military-diplomatic corps accredited with the Defense Ministry of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

“The increasing scale of reconnaissance activities and the growing intensity of operational and combat training of foreign armed forces lead to an increasing number of violations of the state border of the Republic of Belarus in the airspace,” said Valery Revenko. “Six such incursions from the territory of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland have been recorded since August 2023 alone,” he added.

Valery Revenko emphasized that the Belarusian Defense Ministry shows utmost restraint, and its response to such provocations is limited to scrambling duty aircraft and taking diplomatic measures. At the same time, in order to maintain border security, the Armed Forces continue beefing up some border sections in the airspace and on land.

“Our troops stand ready to repel any aggression,” assured Valery Revenko.
