MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) - At a meeting of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention in Vienna, Belarus’ representative rejected the accusations of the Polish delegation of instrumentalizing the migration, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"We categorically reject these accusations. They do not stand up to any criticism. Less than half a percent of all migrants who end up in the EU territory get there through the territory of Belarus. We have repeatedly offered the neighboring EU member states to return to normal professional cooperation to counter this major challenge," the Belarusian diplomat said. “It remains a mystery to us why the disadvantaged people who arrive in the EU by hundreds of thousands through the Balkan, Mediterranean and other routes need to be rescued and admitted, while a few thousand migrants entering the EU through Belarus are ‘instrumentalized’ migrants who can be killed and maimed at the border."
The statement stressed that instead of jointly regulating regular and irregular migration, neighboring EU member states have begun erecting hundreds of kilometers of barbed wire walls along the border.
Belarus once again calls to abandon the unfounded politically motivated policy of accusing Belarus of instrumentalizing the migration and to return to a normal dialogue on global migration issues, primarily in the interests of ensuring the rights of migrants.
