MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Aleinik has met with Head of the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross to Russia, Belarus, and Moldova Ikhtiyar Aslanov, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.
Sergei Aleinik and Ikhtiyar Aslanov discussed results of Belarus-ICRC cooperation in 2020 as well as this year's joint events, including regional seminars on international humanitarian law, assistance to vulnerable population strata, and the implementation of initiatives within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
Sergei Aleinik and Ikhtiyar Aslanov mentioned the high effectiveness of bilateral interaction and agreed to continue work in spheres of mutual interest. The Belarusian side highly appreciated the contribution of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Belarusian Society of the Red Cross to counteracting the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
The International Committee of the Red Cross is a humanitarian organization that provides aid and renders assistance to victims of armed conflicts. The ICRC is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. It was founded in Switzerland in 1863. In 2020 Belarus received Br3.6 million worth of aid via the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, with Br2.8 million spent on COVID-19 prevention and counteraction.
