MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) – Belarusian MPs have ratified an agreement between the government of Belarus and the government of Pakistan on readmission, BelTA has learned.
In his speech on 28 October at the 3rd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security, the Belarusian president emphasized the importance of ensuring security and proper living conditions for law-abiding foreigners amid the migration crisis. Simultaneously, instructions were given to expedite deportation procedures for those who violate national legislation, Deputy Internal Affairs Minister and Chief of Criminal Police Gennady Kazakevich noted.
In this regard, he stated that one of the most effective tools to counter illegal migration is the forced return of migrants under readmission agreements.
To date, Belarus has concluded readmission agreements with Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Georgia, Türkiye, Ukraine, and the European Union.
To prevent potential risks associated with the illegal entry and stay of Pakistani citizens on the territory of Belarus and attempts to illegally migrate to European Union countries, the Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs developed an agreement between the government of Belarus and the government of Pakistan on readmission, which was signed in Minsk on 11 April 2025.
“The agreement provides for mutual obligations, upon request by one of the parties, to accept back their own citizens who have entered or are staying on the territory of the requesting state in violation of national legislation,” the deputy infernal affairs minister explained.
The document also regulates the content and submission procedure for readmission requests, defines the competent implementing authorities and their respective powers, and establishes conditions for transfers under escort, along with other related aspects.
“A distinctive feature of the agreement is the absence of provisions for the readmission of third-country nationals and stateless persons who have entered or are staying on the territory of the state in violation of migration rules, as well as the transit of expelled persons through the territories of the contracting parties. This feature is primarily due to the geographical location of our country and Pakistan. We do not share a common border, nor do we have direct air communication,” the deputy minister said.
