MINSK, 30 April (BelTA) – The number of cybercrimes has been growing and the police have been taking appropriate measures to counteract them, Dmitry Rezenkov, who was appointed head of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee on 30 April, told journalists, BelTA has learned.
Ensuring public security and protecting lives and health of citizens is the priority, Dmitry Rezenkov said as he spoke about his main goal in the new post. He also dealt with these tasks as he served the first deputy head of the internal affairs department of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee. “It does not matter whether we speak about Vitebsk Oblast or Grodno Oblast. All citizens are equal in our eyes. However, every region has its specifics. There were less protests in Vitebsk Oblast, while Grodno Oblast was more active in this respect,” he noted.
According to Dmitry Rezenkov, there is a common tendency in all regions: crime is moving online. “The number of offences tackled by criminal police is declining. In Vitebsk Oblast, for example, it went down by 20%. As for cybercrimes, their number is increasing dramatically. This is a new dimension and we are taking measures to combat these new crimes too,” he explained. To tackle new challenges and threats, the Belarusian police are setting up new units. Dmitry Rezenkov believes that the police are ready and able to control the situation.
“We will fulfill the tasks set by the head of state. Everything is in place for this,” Dmitry Rezenkov stressed.
