Belarus’ police getting ready to maintain security at upcoming elections

MINSK, 15 January (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Kubrakov spoke about the measures undertaken by the Ministry of Internal Affairs to ensure security during the upcoming election campaign in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel on 13 January, BelTA has learned.
"We started preparations for the election campaign a long time ago. After the events of 2020, when the situation was very tense, we worked on the mistakes and analyzed the situation. During the referendum in 2022, we ensured the security of polling stations in a completely different way. Therefore, we know what we will do in terms of the tactics and the strategy," Ivan Kubrakov said.
The minister noted that the personnel of the internal affairs bodies must be ready to take action even in the most difficult situation. "Our president always says: if you seek peace, prepare for war. We are doing exactly that. Currently, the security is ensured and the operational situation is under control. But the personnel must be ready to fulfill the task in any situation," the minister emphasized.
According to Ivan Kubrakov, every polling station will be inspected and alarm buttons will be installed. Currently, video surveillance has been mounted in all the premises that hosted polling stations in the past.
"I will use the example of Minsk. A special room is allocated. At least 50 people will work there. Every polling station and the surrounding area will be carefully monitored. In case of an emergency, we will send rapid response teams which will provide assistance to public security employees. Therefore, the situation is under control. I am sure that the tactics and actions that we have planned will give results, and we will ensure security," the minster noted.
